Twins parties
Planning a party for twins can be challenging, especially if they are boy girl twins. Whilst the boys may want to charge about making as much noise and chaos as possible, girls tend to enjoy more structured activities and crafts. So what can you do to please both groups?
It might help to start with your theme. If it's their first or second birthday, things can be kept pretty simple, they tend to like similar things. Neutral themes like a circus or farm work really well and favourite characters like Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol will always have them squealing with delight. The classic Mickey and Minnie Mouse and Little Prince and Little Princess are timeless and very cute themes too.
So what happens when they hit 3? They have a very definite idea of what they do and what they don't like, any Mum of a 3 year old will tell you this! This is the time when trying to co-ordinate a birthday party for boys and girls can be a challenge. A great theme that works well, whilst still being neutral, is an "under the sea" theme. Include elements of mermaids for the girls and sharks for the boys, these can easily be incorporated into your party games and the party bags. A Teddy Bears picnic is great fun for this age too and the added option of "stuff your own bears" activity that can be used as a take home gift, is a party they will remember for a long time.
As they reach school age, they seem to really widen the gap between what they see as a girls party and a boys party. A superhero theme can still be a great neutral theme, most boys have a favourite character and it seems that girls have superhero's too, they all seem to think of Frozen's Elsa. Providing capes as take home party favors that can be used during the party, are a big hit and can keep them busy.
Gender specific themes like Mermaid and Pirate, Knights and Princess, Fairy and Pixies and Cowgirl and Indian are all great themes to work with and will always be a popular choice. There are still many neutral themes that work well too, including a Beach party theme, Glow party, Ninja Warrior, the list goes on.
Remember to have plenty of activities planned and try to split the groups, this will allow the boys time to run around and burn of some of that energy, whilst the girls can enjoy some time being creative. After 30 mins or so you can swap the groups around, before serving the party food, followed by some party games.
Well at that seems left to do is pick which theme? Hopefully this little blog will have given you some ideas.
Happy planning!
