Moroccan Party - part 1
What a fabulous party this was to plan, bursting with colour and full of gorgeous features that would easily work for an adult party too. We are so excited to be able to share the photos with you.
The brief was to create an evening party for a 10th birthday, the guest list was small, only 8 guests in total, but the idea was big. The birthday girl wanted a grown up theme and if possible an outdoor party, which living in the UK is a challenge in itself. She didn't want it to be formal, just more of a chilled out affair, with a few games for fun too.
After coming up with various ideas, we knew we had it right when the moroccan theme started to come together. A large marquee was the first priority, no chance of the weather spoiling this event! With informal seating inside, which were floor cushions and a table at low level, this gave the feeling of being an intimate affair with a relaxed atmosphere. Bright colours for the tableware and a mix of different fabrics, plus a lantern centrepiece completed the look.
Decorations inside the marquee coordinated beautifully with the theme. First there was the canopy ceiling to create above the table area, we wanted the guests to really feel like they were eating at a moroccan banquet. We selected rich colours of purple and gold to trim the ceiling and suspended a moroccan lantern from the centre, it really gave the space a different feel.
Around the inside of the marquee we hung gold and silver fringed curtains, which sparkled and shimmered in the evening light and numerous balloons in gold and purple were placed here and there. At the far end of the marquee we created a focal point using a balloon garland and the birthday cake, drawing your eyes to the back of the room.
Creating the balloon garland was great fun and using a mix of colours and sizes worked really well against the black background. We used rose gold letters to spell out the birthday girls name and rose gold numbers for her age below. The birthday cake of course complimented the theme, with matching cookies too.
As this party was to have a more grown up feel, we set up a drinks station where guests could help themselves and included various accessories to trim their drinks like stirrers, straws, mini cocktail umbrellas and an ice bucket, the guests loved getting involved in this.
Battery operated candles in lanterns were placed all around the marquee and at the entrance, in anticipation of the sun setting later in the evening. This subtle lighting gave a gentle glow that added to the atmosphere.
Food options, treats, games and party bags will all be covered in the next post, there is still so much more to share!
So maybe just one last element to mention today.
The entrance. This would be the guests first impression of the party, so it needed to have a wow factor. Gold fringed curtains covered the doorway and a red roped barrier prevented access to the marquee, with a VIP entrance sign on display. This was a select party, strictly for invited guests with a VIP badge. What could be more exciting than that to a group of 10 year olds?
More on that in the next post!
